PARKS AND RECREATION
New "Nature" Trails created in Two of our Parks!
The Public Works Staff have created some nature trails through Community Park (near the St. Francis Bark Park) and the Smith Lake Park in St. Francis. Hiking is a natural exercise that promotes physical fitness, is economical and convenient, and requires no special equipment or skill. It’s a great way to connect with nature and get outdoors. You can take the whole family, including your pet!
- Smith Lake Park – We have a .43-mile trail loop (23800 Palm St NW)
- Community Park – The nature trail is about an 1/8 of a mile long. The trail starts and/or ends near the Bark Park and goes through the woods to the east/south side of the pond, near the parking lot off of Hwy 47 (22825 St. Francis Blvd NW)
Benefits of Nature Walks:
- Stress Reduction: A 20-minute walk in nature can help reduce stress hormones like cortisol.
- Improved Mood: Even a short walk can boost mood, self-esteem, and relaxation.
- Cognitive Benefits: Nature walks can improve focus, concentration and memory.
- Physical Health: Walking in nature can contribute to better heart health, circulation, and lower cholesterol and blood pressure.
City Parks and their many health benefits are open to anyone. Don’t be afraid to lace up your boots and grab a walking stick. The opportunities and benefits of hiking are waiting for you, all you have to do is go.
